CLASS 4 MOT TESTING

MOT REPAIRS & RETESTS

SECTION ONE

Your Safety Depends on Your MOT

As all motorists know, vehicles more than three years old are legally required to have an annual MOT (Ministry of Transport) test – an inspection with strict criteria laid down by the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) to make sure your car is fit for purpose and in roadworthy condition.

It may seem like a nuisance to have to remember to schedule your MOT, and pay for it (and any repairs necessary if it’s found to not make the grade), but your safety on the road, and that of other road users, depends on having a vehicle in sound condition.

Heytesbury Garage is an approved MOT testing centre in Warminster, accredited to carry out MOTs on Class IV vehicles. This class of vehicles covers all cars, people carriers with up to 12 passenger seats, camper vans, and goods vehicles with a gross weight up to 3,000kg.

SECTION TWO

Free Re-Tests

Here at Heytesbury Garage we book appointments for MOT tests (which take around an hour to complete) and stick rigidly to our schedule, so you won’t be kept waiting around for longer than is necessary. You don’t need to bring any paperwork. MOTs can be done up to 28 days in advance of the expiry date of your current MOT certificate.

If the vehicle doesn’t pass the MOT we’ll advise you straight away what needs attending to and you have the option of us quoting a price for the required repairs, and doing the work for you prior to a free re-test.

Most of our customers book a service for their car at the same time as their MOT – a regular annual service is recommended to keep your vehicle in top condition and we’ll usually be able to quote you a very reasonable price for a service and MOT together.

SECTION THREE

What is Checked in a MOT?

There are numerous things that are checked, inspected and tested during a MOT test. Here are the main things we scrutinise:

  • The condition, legibility and format of the registration plate.
  • The presence and legibility of the Vehicle Identification Number.
  • The condition, colour and operation of the lights.
  • The operation of the steering and suspension system.
  • The efficiency of the window wipers and washers.
  • Cracks or chips in the windscreen.
  • The effective operation of the horn.
  • Seatbelt condition and operation.
  • The fuel system is checked for leaks.
  • Exhaust emissions are measured and must be within specific guidelines.
  • The bodywork is checked for corrosion or damage in specific areas.
  • Doors must open and close correctly.
  • Mirrors in good condition.
  • Tyre tread depth and condition.
  • Efficiency of the brakes.
